Welcome to our Connectivity Modern Program!
At CDL, our Modern classes introduce dancers to a powerful and expressive form of movement rooted in contemporary and modern dance techniques. Evolving from an expressionist movement, modern dance shifts focus away from classical ballet’s rigid structure and emphasizes movement initiated through the torso, breath, and connection to the floor.
Through techniques inspired by Graham, Limon, Cunningham, and Evans Contemporary, dancers explore concepts like contraction and release, fall and recovery, and improvisation, building a strong mind-body connection and an understanding of movement as a form of expression.
Our Modern program empowers dancers to move freely, think creatively, and perform with authenticity—blending artistry and athleticism in an inspiring environment.

MODERN FOUNDATIONS
CDL Modern Foundations are non-competitive classes that focus on the core elements of modern dance. Dancers will explore grounded movement, fluid transitions, and dynamic use of the torso through techniques such as contraction and release, fall and recovery, and improvisation. Fundamental skills such as strength, flexibility, balance, and floor work are introduced, while students also learn to connect movement with breath, space, and expression.
These classes offer a structured yet creative approach, encouraging dancers to build confidence and artistry while discovering the freedom and individuality of modern dance. With progressive training, students lay the groundwork for more advanced levels and a deeper understanding of authentic movement and expression.
COMPETITIVE MODERN
Competitive Modern is designed for dancers ready to take their training from the studio to the stage. Building on the fundamentals learned in Modern Foundations, this program emphasizes performance quality, artistry, and expressive storytelling through movement.
Dancers will refine advanced modern techniques, including contraction and release, fall and recovery, floor work, and improvisation, while developing precision, control, and individuality.
Enrollment requires dancers to be actively training in full-year Modern Foundations and Ballet Foundations classes.


RE-IGNITE MOBILITY
Our Re-Ignite program is designed for adults who are ready to kindle a love for movement! The Mobility & Pilates class blends strength, stability, and flexibility training to help you build a stronger core, improve posture, and increase ease of movement.
This low-impact class is perfect for anyone looking to enhance body awareness, reduce tension, and re-ignite their passion for movement and wellness in a supportive, empowering environment.
